Almost all plants in genus Artemisia have the same characteristic, pungent fragrance and silvery, lace-like foliage that easily contrasts and overpowers the modest yellow flowers that accompany them. Although widely known as wormwood which grows in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 4 through 8, it is also a vigorous grower — so vigorous you might want to segregate it in your landscape. Although Artemisia tolerates an a range of growing conditions, including soil with poor fertility and a pH from 6.0 to 7.0, it doesn’t fare well in poor-draining soil.
