Esperanza

Tecoma stans

Commonly called Yellow Bells, this popular shrub and small tree can reach 20 feet tall and wide. One of the most colorful plants in our area, Yellow Bells put on a riot of bright yellow flowers starting mid-spring all the way to the first frost of winter. This plant also produces orange flowers.

Very fast growing, water deeply the first summer to get them established. Fertilize when actively growing to keep leaves dark green.

They will suffer in cold winters, protect young plants against hard frosts. Yellow Bells recover quickly in spring and soon return to their full size. Prune off dead blooms occasionally to reduce unsightly seed pods and speed up blooming cycles.
