Abelia
The glossy Abelia can be either a deciduous or evergreen shrub depending on the warmth of the location where it is grown. It has a beautiful arching form and is covered with an abundance of pink flowers every year in the summer. They also add color to your garden in the fall when the leaves change to bronze, red or purple depending on the variety.
Azalea
Nothing is more beautiful than an azalea shrub in spring bloom. These easy-care shrubs come in so many colors it’s hard to find one that doesn’t suit your needs. Azaleas can be grown in nearly any garden, adding interest and color to drab areas. Growing and caring for these shrubs is easy. Azaleas have shallow roots and require a well-drained, acidic soil.
Boxwood (Japanese)

Boxwood (Wintergreen)
Cold-hardy Wintergreen Boxwood, also known as Korean Boxwood, is an incredibly versatile and popular addition to landscape design. No matter the setting, be it formal or casual, this shrub consistently exceeds expectations. Slow-growing Wintergreen Boxwood typically gains only 2-3 inches annually, maturing to heights of about 3 feet with a 4-5 foot spread. If left to grow naturally, it takes on a mushroom shape.
Bottlebrush
Bottlebrush plants (Callistemon spp.) get their name from the spikes of flowers that bloom at the ends of the stems, bearing a strong resemblance to a bottle brush. Grow them as shrubs or small trees that grow up to 15 feet. Most bottlebrush varieties bloom over a long summer season in shades of red or crimson.

Cypress (Leyland)
Known for its fast growth rate of around 3 feet per year, the Leyland Cypress Tree is perfect for those searching for privacy. Leyland Cypress is a hardy plant that grows to be up to 35-40 feet tall. Leyland Cypress are very hardy plants and easy to care for requiring simple maintenance. They are also known to be drought tolerant.
Dwarf Burford Holly
This dwarf Chinese Holly is probably the most widely used, particularly in warmer climates. Its dense but layered form is perfect for a natural hedge or even as an edging plant for taller flowering shrubs. At home in the woodland setting, or as a controlled source of unique texture in formal settings. Often planted beneath windows, where its slow growth and shorter stature makes it attractive from indoors and out.
Dwarf Yaupon Holly
The symmetrical, dense, rounded form of dwarf yaupon holly requires only infrequent pruning to maintain its 4- to 6-foot height and spread. Unpruned plants eventually grow 7 to 10 feet tall and slightly wider. Ideally suited as a low-growing foundation plant, it is also excellent as a tall ground cover for a large-scale commercial landscape. It can be sheared into a formal hedge or into any of a number of topiary shapes.
Ebbingei (Silverberry)
A fast growing evergreen shrub with a dense rounded, spreading habit to 10' x 10' wide. Large, gray-green, leathery leaves have silvery undersides. Heavily scented flowers bloom in the fall, followed by edible, orange-red berries in the spring. This is a very adaptable shrub that does well, once established, in all but very soggy soils, sun or shade. Excellent for hedging or background planting.
Forsythia (Lynwood Gold )
This shrub is sometimes referred to as the harbinger of spring or the ultimate symbol of spring because the flowers brighten the landscape at a time when not much else is in bloom. With a growth rate of 2 to 4 feet per year, your forsythia will quickly fill any space, anywhere. These Lynwood Gold Forsythias are virtually carefree.
Hydrangea (Summer Beauty)
Expect 'All Summer Beauty' to reach 3 to 4 feet high and 3 to 5 feet wide. It's also terrific as a foundation plant because the branchy upright silhouette in winter is interesting, and the flowers last forever in summer. It needs partial shade in the south, but does well in full sun farther north. Make sure you keep it watered well, but with good soil drainage!
indian hawthorne
Eleanor Tabor Indian Hawthorne is an exceptionally low-maintenance, drought and heat tolerant evergreen shrub that produces an abundance of pink flowers in spring, making it a great alternative to Azaleas where there is too much sun. No pruning is necessary as this shrub will maintain its dense, mounded form all on its own. It grows 4 feet tall with a 4 to 6 foot spread.
Indian Laurel
Fast growing dense evergreen foliage and is a fast grower that provides a thick dense canopy of shade and has many uses for your landscape. These trees come in a few different styles, multi trunk and column style. Great tree for privacy, screening from golf balls and sound barrier. It can be planted in nearly any landscape and can thrive in our climate.
Japanese Yew
Japanese Yews are lively evergreens with thick foliage that grows together to create a solid wall to provide your yard and home with privacy. Japanese Yews are popular choices for trees, or hedges because they are incredibly low maintenance. They also have a high level of drought resistance and are shade tolerant.

Juniper (Sea Green)
'Sea Green' is a compact, evergreen shrub with a fountain-like, arching habit. Typically grows 4-6' high and to 8' wide. Features dark green foliage (may turn darker in winter) which is attractive year-round. Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerant of a wide variety of soils including clay.
KNOCKOUT ROSE
The Knock Out® Family of Roses are easy to grow and don't require special care. Plant them individually among shrubs, annuals and perennials in mixed beds and borders. Plant them in large groups to create a colorful hedge or along a foundation to provide a bright border. For best performance, we recommend cutting them back every year in early spring after the last threat of frost has passed.
Leatherleaf Mahonia
Mahonia is an evergreen shrub that can grow 4 to 6 feet tall by 3 to 4 feet wide. Truly a colorful shade shrub for all seasons, the hardy plant offers fragrant flowers in late winter and blue grape-like clusters of fruit in mid to late spring. Leaf color, when grown in the shade, is dark to almost blue-green. Plant Leatherleaf Mahonia in a shady location.
Ligustrum (Wax Leaf Privet)
This dense evergreen shrub of an upright habit is capable of growing as a shrub or small tree. Its dark green, leathery leaves are opposite those of a simple evergreen. The extremely tolerant privet isn't picky about soil, and can grow in dry, medium or average soil types. Wax-leaf privet thrives in full sun or partial shade and is drought resistant.
Ligustrum (Variegated Privet)
Variegated Privet is an evergreen shrub that, just as the name implies, features ornamental foliage and year-round appeal. Variegated Privet will grow up to 15 feet tall with an equal spread. Variegated Privet can be left to grow naturally beautiful with a slight cascading effect, or be trimmed according to your needs or for a denser form.
Loropetalum (Plum)
Reddish-purple foliage year around. Unlike some of the other purple leafed varieties it retains it coloration on old and new growth. New growth is almost as vivid as the flower color. Dark pink fringe-like flowers multiple times a year. Some winter flowering during warmer spells. Great for use as a flowering evergreen hedge or accent plant.
May Bush (Double White)
These shrubs are grown for their ornamental appeal and toughness, once established. The shrub is deciduous and has a stunning, spring display with its white double blooms on soft arching branches. Flowering May's also make lovely informal hedges or screens. A great addition to any garden due to its drought tolerance and flowering display.
NANDINA
Lacy green leaves on upright cane-like stems turn brilliant red in autumn. Clusters of tiny cream-colored flowers are followed by bright red berries. Versatile and durable, effective as a specimen plant for screening or in borders. Use for mass plantings to create an intense, colorful landscape effect as color changes. Evergreen.
Oleander
Oleander is a fast-growing evergreen shrub with fragrant, colorful flowers that bloom all summer and fall. This durable shrub is useful for screens, hedges, accents, beach plantings and urban landscapes. Planted correctly, oleander plants can thrive in locations other plants cannot. Oleanders come in many sizes and colors.
pineapple guava
A versatile evergreen, easy to grow plant yielding edible flowers and tropical fruit! Fleshy, white flower petals have showy red accents, contrasting nicely with the gray-green foliage. Tasty guava-like fruit ripens in late fall. Multiple, upright branching form is easily trained as espalier, hedge or small specimen tree for landscape or container. Moderate grower to 10 to 15 ft. tall and wide.
pittosporum
Most species of pittosporum grow well as hedges or screens, and their moderate leaf density adds to the privacy they offer. For this reason, they can also be grown as shade trees. Grown alone, you may prune them to be specimen trees or topiary, and grown in rows they make a good informal hedge or shrubbery. Pittosporums usually grow to 20 and 35 feet, though they may be kept smaller with pruning.
Primrose Jasmine
Primrose Jasmine is an outstanding evergreen hedge that is covered with bright yellow fragrant flowers that mature to a creamy-yellow flower at long time intervals from December through the Spring. The bright yellow flowers are semi-double and appear scattered on clusters up and down the square stems that arch over and downwards like water streaming from a fountain. It grows 5-10 ft in height and spread.
Pride-Of-Barbados
The Red Bird of Paradise is a medium to large growing shrub with bright orange/red flowers that show from late spring through the fall. Often seen in desert landscapes, semi-tropical yards and open commercial areas this shrub is one of the brightest flowering plants for any use in the Valley. Prune hard in winter to maintain medium to large scale. Unpruned specimens can grow up to 10 to 12 feet.
Rosemary
Rosemary is a magnificent fragrant herb that is native to the Mediterranean. During the Middle Ages, rosemary was used as a love charm. While most of us enjoy the aroma of fresh rosemary, today most people grow it for its culinary uses and ornamental qualities. There are several easy to care for varieties in this family of Lamiaceae.
Red Tip Photina
Red-tipped Photinia is an upright broad-leaved evergreen shrub with lance-shaped leaves. Foliage emerges bright red or bronze, turning a leathery dark green. Small white flowers appear in mid- to late spring. Great as a hedge, in a shrub border, or in mixed beds. Evergreen, fast growing typically reaches 10-15′ tall and as wide
Sweet Olive
A large evergreen shrub or small tree with a broad upright form that is densely branched and covered with dark green finely toothed foliage.Tiny flower clusters have a delightful apricot-like fragrance. Blooms begin to appear in central Texas in mid- to late October.Works well for formal or informal hedges and screens, or as a landscape specimen. Plant near walks and entrances to enjoy the fragrance.
Sweet Viburnum
Sweet Viburnum is a very large evergreen shrub or small tree, at maturity may reach 20 ft in height and 15 ft wide. The Sweet Viburnum is one of the most gratifying shrubs to use as a hedge, because of its fast rate of growth and the beautiful springtime fragrance. An excellent shrub for blocking out unwanted views or creating privacy in the garden. Its dense foliage is ideal for hedging and screening.
Texas Sage
According to legend, cenizo tends to bloom in conjunction with rainfall. Texas Sage is easy to grow so long as it has good drainage. Though this species is the most irrigation-tolerant of the genus, it is susceptible to cotton root rot if soil does not have good drainage and remains moist. Texas Sage should not be fertilized or over-watered. Drought- and heat-tolerant. During very cold winters, may lose a few leaves.
Timber Bamboo
Bambusa oldhamii is a clumping timber bamboo that can grow 55' tall and produce canes that are 4" in diameter. It grows quickly in this area when given ample sun (it likes full sun), water, and fertilizer. While it will grow faster with ample water, Bambusa oldhamii is considered to be a drought tolerant bamboo. Provides a dense visual screen.
woodward globe
This is an evergreen shrub, keeping its foliage year-round. The Woodward globe arborvitae is a compact to medium-sized shrub that naturally maintains its broadly rounded shape. It grows to a height of 4–10' and a spread of 8–15' at maturity The fine-textured, lacy foliage is a rich green, turning shades of green and brown in winter. It’s a popular landscaping choice for an evergreen hedge or stand-alone shrub.
